Setup guide · Windows
Windows can often install a Samsung printer by itself. HP’s files add scanning and status tools when you need them.
Quick answer
- USBPlug in, switch on, then add the device in Settings.
- NetworkSame network, then Add device.
- Full featuresInstall HP’s files listed for your model.
- ProblemsGo to the fix guides.
1. Find your model and the files HP lists
Samsung printer software now comes from HP. HP lists a different set of files for every model, so start from the model name printed on the front of the printer, for example SCX-5737FW or SL-M2070W. Open that model on our Samsung driver guides page. It shows the Windows versions HP lists for each file and says clearly when HP lists no driver for Windows 11.
2. USB: let Windows install the printer
Microsoft says a printer connected by USB normally installs by itself when it is plugged in and switched on. If it does not:
- Connect the printer to the PC with the USB cable and switch the printer on.
- Open Start → Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners (on Windows 10: Settings → Devices → Printers & scanners).
- Check whether the printer is already in the list. If not, select Add device next to Add a printer or scanner.
- The list can take a few minutes to fill. Select Add device next to your Samsung printer.
- If a Find drivers button appears, or after the printer is added, check Windows Update for newer printer drivers.
If the printer is still missing, choose The printer that I want isn’t listed → Add a new device manually and follow the wizard.
3. Network or Wi-Fi: same network first
For a network or wireless printer, the printer and the PC must be on the same network. Then repeat the steps above: Printers & scanners → Add device, and select your printer when it appears.
If the printer will not join Wi-Fi at all, fix that first with Samsung printer offline or not connecting to Wi-Fi.
4. Install HP’s file for full features
Windows’ own driver may print but miss scanning, status monitoring or other functions. For those, use the files that HP lists for your model. Names differ by model, so use the exact names on your model page. Common ones are:
| File name on HP’s list | What it is for |
|---|---|
| Print driver (PCL6, PostScript or XPS in the name) | Printing. Pick the one named for your exact model. |
| Universal Print Driver | One print driver for several Samsung models. HP lists it only for some models. |
| Scan driver | Scanning from programs on a multifunction printer. |
| Easy Printer Manager | Printer status and settings from the PC. |
| Easy Wireless Setup | Connecting a wireless model to Wi-Fi. |
| Easy Document Creator | Scanning and saving documents. |
- Download the file from the link on your model page. The links go to HP’s own server.
- Run the print driver first and choose the USB or network connection when the installer asks.
- Run the scan driver next, if your model has one and you need scanning.
- Open Control Panel → Devices and Printers, right-click the printer and choose Printer properties → Print Test Page.
If it does not work
- Printer added but nothing prints: Samsung printer not printing on Windows 11.
- Prints but will not scan: Samsung printer scanner not working on Windows 11.
- No Windows 11 driver for an old model: what you can still do.
Common questions
Do I need to install a driver at all?
Often not. Microsoft says Windows supports most printers out of the box. A full driver from HP adds functions such as scanning and status tools.
Which Windows versions does HP list for my printer?
It depends on the model. Each page on our driver guides list shows the versions HP lists for every file.
Windows 10 support has ended. Can I still install the printer?
Microsoft ended free Windows 10 updates on 14 October 2025. The PC still works, and the steps above are the same, but Microsoft recommends Windows 11.
